Initial Meeting
The initial meeting between the client and the designer is very crucial. The purpose of this meeting is to set objectives for the project. The client will share to the designer what it is the company hopes to achieve in having a shop or office fit out done. The designer will also ask about the nature of their business – what they do, who their clients are, what kind of transactions will be happening in the shop that is to be fitted out. This will give the designer a working knowledge of the requirements of the business and how to promote the company priorities through the design of the shop or office.
Concept Presentation
The second step in how a project works step by step is a concept presentation. This is where the designer presents the preliminary design of the shop or office to the client. This is also a checkpoint for the client and designer to make sure that they agree on the general direction of the project. If not, then any existing misconceptions must be corrected. The client will give feedback on whether or not the design is agreeable to him and give suggestions on the initial concept to make it more suitable to his company’s taste.
Concept Revisions and Cost Estimates
On the next meeting, the designer must have already incorporated the changes requested by the client during the concept presentation. The final design will be presented, as well as a preliminary cost estimate. Any issues must be brought up by the client in the discussion. The designer must address these issues to the satisfaction of the client. The project officially begins when the client approves both the final design and indicates that the cost estimate is within the company budget.
Plan production and detailed costing
This is the longest part of the process. In this stage, the project designer will produce detailed plans for pricing and construction which will be submitted to the local authorities in order to procure a Building Consent. The local council will check the application for a Building Consent and verify that all building requirements are being complied with. No construction can begin without a Building Consent.
This is how a project works step by step at Base Design.
